That’s why we’re so proud to be our community’s Costa Mesa dentist; we understand that metal free fillings are becoming dated and that many of our patients prefer superior, metal-free or amalgam-free fillings, also called composites or white fillings. These fillings offer a much more natural look; their plastic resin and glass-like particle filler create a solution which is designed to blend in naturally with tooth enamel and color. They’re also more effective and safe than traditional metal or amalgam fillings, which contract and expand fairly often, potentially causing cracks in tooth structure. More revolutionary fillings can avoid these issues. We even use a filling method that enables the easy flow of composite into the cavity for smooth and discreet placement.
If you’re worried that you may be settling for less than the best in terms of your oral care, book yourself an appointment with your local Costa Mesa dentist, Dr. J Foster Weems DDS!
Newport Beach CA teeth cleaning
If you want to make sure that your teeth and gums stay healthy, you will want to have a great at-home dental cleaning regimen, and visit our dental practice, J Foster Weems DDS. For good oral health, you will need periodic dental exams and a Newport Beach CA teeth cleaning every six months. And, sometimes a periodontal cleaning may be needed instead.
When you come in to see our dentist, Dr. Foster Weems, for a dental exam, you will have your entire mouth examined which includes assessment of your gum health. It is generally recommended that all of our patients come in for a Newport Beach CA teeth cleaning every six months, or more frequently if certain gum conditions exist. During a regular dental cleaning, all plaque and tartar will be removed from the surface of your teeth, from between the teeth, and from just below the gum line. A regular dental cleaning is considered to be part of regular preventive maintenance for your mouth. If our dentist sees that gingivitis, a precursor to gum disease is present, he will probably recommend that you have several regular dental cleanings over the coming months to help your gums return to good health. When a patient has gingivitis, the gums have become red and inflamed from irritation by plaque. If our dentist sees that deep pockets have actually formed between your teeth and gums, you have gum disease. At this point, you will need to have a periodontal scaling and root planing treatment to help your gums return to good health. During this type of treatment, all materials including plaque, tartar, bacteria, and food debris are removed from the deep pockets that have formed between your teeth and gums. This treatment should help the pocket depths to become smaller, and to help the gums to eventually heal. If a periodontal cleaning is not successful in reversing the gum disease, you may need to have gum surgery.

Newport Beach CA Wisdom Teeth Removal
If you are experiencing painful wisdom teeth, you should visit us at our dental practice, J Foster Weems DDS, for emergency dental care. At our dental practice, our dentist, Dr. J. Foster Weems, can provide you with Newport Beach CA wisdom teeth removal.
Wisdom teeth are much more likely to have problems erupting then other teeth do. This is because the wisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt, and by this time there can be little room left in the mouth. Wisdom teeth are often referred to as the third molars. Wisdom teeth are prone to developing many different types of problems and may try to come in sideways, only partially come in, or can even become impacted underneath the gums. For this reason, wisdom teeth can be the source of much pain and infection in the mouth. They can also cause facial swelling and other oral problems. If a wisdom tooth becomes infected, the infection can even spread to other parts of the mouth or other parts of the body. It is important that you see our dentist for any wisdom teeth problems. Our dentist will be able to thoroughly assess the situation and let you know if you are a good candidate for Newport Beach CA wisdom teeth removal. When wisdom teeth are removed, they do not need to be replaced with dental implants or other teeth replacements. It is very common for wisdom tooth removal to be performed. If your wisdom teeth have fully erupted without causing any pain or any disruption to existing teeth, there is no need to see our dentist regarding your wisdom teeth. However, if your wisdom teeth are causing tooth pain, have only partially erupted, or are causing any type of disruption in your mouth, you should visit our dentist as soon as possible.
If you are experiencing tooth pain caused by wisdom teeth, and need to have Newport Beach CA wisdom teeth removal, contact our office for an appointment.

Gum therapy in Newport Beach
Our dentist will provide regular examinations of your gums during checkups with a periodontal probe and regular x-rays. It is important to prevent gum disease as infection and inflammation of the tissues that support your teeth can erode the ligament and bone beneath the gums, resulting in tooth loss. Gingivitis, for example, is among the most common form of gum disease. However, all forms of gum disease require immediate treatment and gum therapy in Newport Beach to halt the progression and save the gum tissue and bone.
Periodontal treatment methods depend upon the type and severity of the disease. If the disease is caught in the early stages of gingivitis, and no damage has been done, one to two regular cleanings will be recommended by our gum dentist. This gum therapy in Newport Beach removes the plague and calculus by controlling the growth of harmful bacteria and treats conditions that may encourage further gum disease. If the disease has progressed to more advanced stages, a special periodontal cleaning such as scaling and root planing will be recommended. Scaling is a procedure that meticulously removes the plague and tartar deposits at and under the gum line, while root planning then smooths the root’s surfaces so that the supportive tissues can better attach to the tooth surface. This is done with local anesthesia to aid in your comfort. As with most other bacterial diseases, an antibiotic may be administered to help control, reduce, or eliminate the harmful bacteria. If the pockets do not heal after scaling and root planing, periodontal surgery may be needed to reduce pocket depths, making teeth easier to clean.
Routine teeth cleanings are an incredibly effective method in preventing gum disease. However, if periodontal disease is diagnosed, we will discuss with you which of our services will best suit your individual needs for gum treatment. So whether your periodontal disease needs only simple, non-surgical therapy or requires a deeper cleaning with scaling and root planning, gum therapy in Newport Beach at the office of J Foster Weems DDS will transform your teeth, gums, and mouth so that you leave our office smiling.
Newport Beach Invisalign
If you are unhappy because you never had your teeth straightened when you were a teen, we urge you to visit us at our dental practice, J Foster Weems DDS. At our dental practice, our top-notch dentist, Dr. J. Foster Weems, can provide you with Newport Beach Invisalign treatment for a straight and attractive smile.
Many of our patients enjoy being treated with Newport Beach Invisalign because they enjoy having their teeth straightened using clear plastic aligners instead of having to wear metal wires and brackets on their teeth. Depending on the bite situation being corrected, a patient’s individualized set of aligners will have anywhere between 15 and 45 aligners in it. The aligners are created using CAD/CAM computer technology, and will provide you with the exact orthodontic correction that you need in order to have the beautiful smile you have always wanted. Treatment with Invisalign invisible braces takes about the same amount of time as treatment with traditional metal braces. Each aligner in the series is worn for two weeks and will slowly move your teeth into position for the next aligner. Once the last aligner in the series is worn, you will have your beautiful, new smile. Treatment with Invisalign offers many benefits to our patients, including the fact that they will never need to be embarrassed by wearing metal wires and brackets on their teeth. Our patients also enjoy the fact that they are able to eat anything they want during the entire treatment period, because the clear aligners are removed during eating. The patients also remove the aligners so that they can thoroughly brush and floss their teeth every day. This means that your teeth have an excellent chance of being as healthy at the end of the treatment as they are at the beginning.

Teeth cleaning in Newport Beach
Do you want to make sure that your teeth and gums stay as healthy as possible? If so, you will want to come to our dental practice not only for teeth cleanings but for periodic dental exams. Visiting the dentist every six months is not only great for your dental health, but it can also be cost-effective as well. This is because when it comes to dental health, an ounce of prevention is often worth a pound of cure. It is much easier to fix a dental problem when it is in the early stages, rather than wait until it is advanced and needs more involved care. The same is also true with coming in to our practice for a teeth cleaning in Newport Beach.
When you have a teeth cleaning in Newport Beach at our dental practice you are also helping to keep gum disease from forming in your mouth. It is much easier to have a periodic teeth cleaning then to end up having to be treated for gum disease. At our dental practice, J Foster Weems DDS, our top-notch dentist of 25 years is Dr. J. Foster Weems. When patients come to our office for a comprehensive dental exam they have all aspects of their oral health examined. To begin with, our patients generally have a full set of x-rays taken to make sure that there are no problems developing under the gum line or between the teeth. Our dentist will then fully examine your teeth for signs of decay or other problems such as teeth grinding.
Our dentist will go on and continue to examine your mouth for any signs of oral cancer. Your gums will be thoroughly analyzed to make sure they are healthy and are not developing any deep pockets. If this is the case and it is determined that you have gingivitis, a precursor to gum disease, our dentist may recommend that you have a teeth cleaning in Newport Beach at our office several times over the coming months. If it is determined that you have gum disease, our dentist may recommend that you have a periodontal scaling and root planing treatment to help clear out the deep pocket set of form between your teeth and gums. Finally, your fight will be checked to make sure no problems are developing from TMJ or other oral health issues. If you would like an appointment to visit our top-notch dentist, contact our practice today.
Newport Beach dentist
It seems that more and more, patients are interested in receiving metal free dentistry care. We certainly respect our patients’ desires, and so our dental practice, J Foster Weems DDS, provides patients with the option of having metal free dentistry. Our Newport Beach dentist is pleased to be able to offer this treatment option to all.
Some of our patients are concerned about the use of metal fillings. To accommodate these concerns we offer our patients the option of using advanced, new fillings made of tooth-colored materials. Patients are still able to receive treatment with traditional silver amalgam fillings at our dental practice, but everyone will have the choice of receiving fillings which are made of the new tooth-colored materials. These new fillings have several advantages over the traditional silver fillings. However, there are some disadvantages as well. The new tooth-colored composite fillings are made to perfectly color-match your teeth, so no one will be able to tell that a cavity has been filled on your tooth. These fillings also call for less removal of dental enamel. However, the procedure used to install these fillings is a more involved, so they are sometimes more expensive to receive than traditional metal fillings. You will want to check with your insurance company to make sure that these types of fillings are covered. Tooth-colored fillings are bonded to the tooth, so they will make the tooth stronger. However, tooth-colored fillings may eventually chip or even break, as they are not as strong as the silver amalgam fillings. It is generally recommended that if a cavity is large, or the cavity is on a flat chewing surface of a molar, that our patient has it filled with an amalgam filling. However, we will certainly respect our patients concerns and desires when it comes to the filling material that is being used. Our Newport Beach dentist will make a recommendation on the type of filling material he thinks will work best, based on the size and location of the cavity.
